TRAVEL TO MONGOLIA
Mongolia is a wild country where fierce Mongols, led by Genghis
Khan, seem ready to appear at any moment. Almost 1/3
of the population of the country lives in Ulaanbaatar, the capital. In
Ulaanbaatar visit the Gandan Monastery, the Choijin Lama Monastery
(now a museum), Sukhbaatar Square, and Bogd Khan Museum. The Natural History Museum
has displays of many fossils unearthed in the nearby Gobi Desert.
The government is determined to increase tourism. As a result, many tours are operated by regional
operators. These tours all spotlight the unique nomadic nature of Mongolia including
horseback or ox-riding tours, trekking, boating, jeep tours with camping, etc.

Seoul, the capital for over 600 years, is the 10th largest city in the world.
When in Seoul make sure to visit the ancient royal palaces of Gyeongbokgung, Deoksugung,
Changdeokgung, and Changgyeonggung. The old centre contains the popular area
Insa-dong where antique shops, tea house, restaurants, and general shopping
opportunities abound. A panoramic view of the entire city can be seen from Seoul Tower, in
Namsam Park. Visit the Korean Folk village, located just outside the city, to see
reenactments of traditional Korean living. Visit the nearby Hwaseoung Fortress, an ancient
walled city that has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Almost all Koreans have
studied English but may feel uncomfortable conversing. Tipping is a western concept and is
uncommon in Korea. Bargaining is common in outdoor markets. However, never bargain in an
indoor market. Korean food utilizes spicy chilies and lots of garlic. Korean food
can be quite high in sodium, so beware. Good seafood is prevalent and don’t forget to
eat some Korean Barbeque.
TRAVEL TO TAIWAN
Taiwan,is an island on the edge of the Pacific ‘Ring of Fire’. Taiwan
was called 'the most Beautiful Island' by the Portuguese because of its mountain peaks,
forests, waterfalls, lakes, and hot springs. Taiwan also has coral reefs, beautiful beaches,
quaint fishing villages, and many varieties of dolphins in its waters. Taipei is the center of
government and pollution can be quite bad. Great shopping is available in Taipei. Visit
one of the night markets, where bargaining is expected and you can get almost
anything cheap. In Taipei visit the Natural Palace Museum, the Miniatures Museum of Taiwan,
the Longshan Temple, and the National Museum of History. Outside the city visit the
Tangmingshan National Park and hike the Butterfly Corridor, where over
151 varieties of butterflies can be seen. There is also a bird watching trail located
within the same park.
TRAVEL TO SINGAPORE
Singapore is a densely populated, multicultural country
whose two most favored pastimes can seem to be eating and shopping. Shopping malls are
everywhere and everything imaginable can be found. When in Singapore try to visit the pink
dolphins in Dolphin Lagoon. Take a land/sea tour with Duck Tours. Take a glass
bottom cable car trip over the harbour or take a Night Safari. Visit the Singapore Botanic Gardens
and the National Orchid Garden. Singapore cuisine includes heavy influences of Malay, Chinese,
and Indian cuisines. Visit Chinatown Food Street to taste foods with a Chinese influence.
Visit the East Coast Park Seafood Centre for amazing varieties of seafood dining. Chilli
crabs are a local specialty.
